Juan Orlando Hernández, president of Honduras from 2014 to 2022, was extradited to the United States in 2022 and sentenced in Manhattan federal court in 2024 to 45 years in prison on drug trafficking charges. In December 2025 he was released from federal custody after a presidential pardon. He returned to Honduras in July 2026 to face the Pandora I fraud and money laundering case, which a Honduran judge dismissed on September 1, 2026.
